Nick was considering a new mode of transportation, but decided against it… but then considered something a little more exciting.

This will be short as we need to be up at 5:00 am to be ready to head off to our canoe adventure. Nick and Mark are still feeling the last of the aches from the Milford Track.

Instead, we chose the ferry to get us back to the North Island.

Five days on a guided canoe trip is our next outing. Our guide sets up the tents and cooks. We paddle, get sunburned, get eaten by sandflies, and consider the possibility that we will flip our canoe. Believe it or not, I am very excited. A little nervous about getting in and out of the canoe with my bum knee, not to mention getting up off the ground where we are sleeping. But the adventure will, no doubt, be worth a thousand stories.

However, when confronted with a cable car set on a steep incline to climb from Wellington proper to the posh suburb above, Nick chose the original car. Note the angle of the seats that allow for the passengers to sit upright. Also note the straps that give the passengers something to hold on to!
And here is the view of Wellington we got at the top of the cable car. Worth it…But a very short ride! About two minutes!

Driving out to our canoe starting point, we were slowed down by typical New Zealand traffic.

In the meantime, we are off the grid for the next five days. I am hoping my phone battery will last for taking photos. There will be no cell coverage. A good thing!

A little carb loading (tiramisu) before we head off on our five day canoe/camping trip.

Love to you all…and wish us luck!
