We are finally post jet lag and fatigued, enough so that we could actually immerse ourselves in the Fiji magic.
Back in March, in the comfort of Carlotta, I put Google to work on helping figure out where and how to experience Fiji. We had booked the cheapest flight we could find to New Zealand in February, and Fiji Air had the best prices, but there was a mandatory stop in Fiji for a minimum of 24 hours. Darn. For some reason, it took us more than a few seconds to realize that stopping in Fiji could be a good thing. Thus, we carved 10 days out of our New Zealand trip to take advantage.
Thus our Fiji adventure. After much research I chose a โhop on, hop offโ approach to seeing a few of the 330+ Fijian islands. Reading the sales information online, it looked like we were headed for paradise. Fast forward to today, and we found it.

Nick the pirate. We were on the front deck of the catamaran ferry. The water was amazingly calm for the entire 4 hour ride.
The water is stupid warm. At least 80ยฐ as is the air temperature. That wonderful slight breeze keeps you comfortable as does the fresh papaya/tropical juicesโฆand yes, the occasional cocktail with the obligatory umbrella. [OK, I havenโt had the umbrella drink yet, but we have 91 days to go and Hawaii is at the far end of this saga.]

Tubing at sunset. Champagne was gone as was the sunโฆalmost.
After a four-hour ride on the ferry, we arrived at Blue Lagoon Resort (yes, the Blue Lagoon of Brooke Shields fame). We signed up for the sunset tubing tour. Talk about the ultimate Happy HourโฆSitting in an inner tube, a glass of champagne in hand and the tropical sun melting into the west. Not too shabby. Tomorrow we head off for the cave tour (of Brooke Shields fame) where we have to swim underwater to reach the cave. Claustrophobic? Hydrophobic? Nauseaphobic? We will see.
Hereโs todayโs highlights in pics. Food porn will follow at some point!
Venaka and Bula from Fiji!
[Venaka means thank you. Bula means welcome or helloโฆa Fijian version of โalohaโ]
